Incerts is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the effectiveness of learning and
teaching in the UK through the intelligent application of internet technology.
Our core product is a web-based system that allows teachers to record their assessments of the
skills and understanding of their pupils, and then uses and re-uses this teacher assessment data
for:
- planning and targeting;
- leveling and progress tracking; and
- report writing.
It dramatically reduces the time spent on these non-teaching tasks, and clearly boosts learning
and standards in the school.
Incerts is run by a diverse group of people: some established and some up-and-coming, some from
the chalk face and some from the boardroom. They have in common a firm belief in the Incerts
vision, and the talent and resources to realize it.

Slough’s Sure Start team and Incerts have collaborated to create a superb new assessment system,
which will soon be rolled out to all Slough’s Early Years settings.
A year or so earlier, Slough were reviewing and revising their Early Years assessment framework,
and considering comments from practitioners about “compound” curriculum statements that were hard
to assess and progression between statements that was sometimes illogical. At the same time,
Incerts were trying to find a better alternative to the Foundation Stage Profile and e-Profile for
assessing Foundation Stage children.
Both Slough’s practitioners and our software designers needed a framework of easy-to-assess
statements, arranged in a logical progression. The result of a year’s work by the Sure Start team,
a panel of Foundation Stage phase leaders, and Incerts was a new assessment system for Slough,
the Bright Profile, built in to the Incerts software. The response to this software so far, from
schools and nurseries in Slough and elsewhere, has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic.
